It’s a pretty daunting thought, having to do something or follow the same rules you’re not used to for a whole year. 52 weeks. 365 days! 525,949 minutes!! It’s overwhelming and all of that pressure can make you want to quit before you even begin. In my opinion, that’s what makes resolutions suck! A resolution is defined as a firm decision to do or not do something. To me that says that once you make that decision, you’re locked in and it’s a sink or swim mentality. That’s why this year; I’ve decided that instead of having New Year’s Resolutions, I’m setting goals for myself. I feel as though I can set a goal without feeling so intimated by failing or succeeding, it’s like an understanding non-judgy friend!
Now that’s not to say that I’m not going to take these goals seriously. I have every intention of following through with them, but if I miss the gym one day, or if I don’t become super great at photography it’s not the end of the world. So with that said, let’s jump into my lofty list of New Year’s GOALS.

HEALTH
To start with, I’m going to be pretty stereotypical when it comes with what people want to change at the beginning of a new year and that’s my health and fitness.
1.// Join a gym/Workout 4 times a week
Sooo half of this goal is already done (woohoo!). Derek and I went and joined the local gym this past Monday and I’m happy to say that I have indeed been working out there every night since! I would like to keep this momentum up and try and go everyday of the week, but I know that’s not realistic every week so I’m setting my goal to at least 4 times.
2.// Run More/Run 365 miles this year
I know this kind of goes with my first goal, but to me running is its own beast with which I have a love hate relationship. I used to run almost every night in the summer, but sadly that stopped and I’d like to get back into it so I figured a minimum of a mile a day is the perfect (and achievable) goal to set.
3.// Plan out my meals
The lovely days of college and carefree eating have definitely caught up with my body and I’ve noticed that I’ve carried those habits into my post-college work life as well. I would like to take time each month to plan out meals that are going to do good for my body and are not just “convenient.”
4.// Drink more H2O
I don’t drink nearly the amount of water that I should in a day. I don’t like water honestly. But, I know that my body needs it so hopefully I can push myself to drink more and learn to love like it.
PERSONAL
5.// Buy a house
Derek and I have been married for a little over 4 months today and we still have not found a place to live. Luckily I’d really like to get this huge goal checked off my list sooner than later!
6.// Read more/24 books this year
I’ve recently discovered my love for reading and have bought SO many books that are just living on my shelf that I haven’t read (whoops). I want to try and knock out at least 2 books a month which will be a huge undertaking for me.
7.// Get my name changed
I’ve been putting this one off for awhile now, but I suppose that I should get around to finally officially changing my last name (and a million other things!).
8.// Attend church more
I’m 100% a believer in Christ, I am just really lousy about dragging my butt to church on Sundays! I know that to grow in my faith it’s important for me to go, so I’m going to strive for that this year.
9.// Pray more
Self explanatory.
10.// Read my Bible from cover to cover
I will hesitantly admit that I have only opened a Bible a handful of times in my life, but now I would like to change that and read the entire book cover to cover not only to feel closer to God, but also from a learning experience and to better understand my own religion.
CREATIVE
11.// Learn to knit/crotchet
I’ve always wanted to learn to do either one of these two! I’d especially like to try out arm knitting sometime!
12.// Practice my hand lettering
With modern calligraphy being all the rage right now, I’d really love to practice more and find my style.
13.// Take more photos
This goal serves two purposes. One, I’d like to take more picture of my everyday life just to have more to look back on years from now, or to have to show our future children, and two, to better my photography skills. I took a couple classes in college but I was never really into photography as much as I am now.
BUSINESS/BLOG
14.//Finish my blog layout
If you’ve tried clocking on any of the page links on my blog, you might have noticed something… the fact that none of them work (sad day). I want to get all my links working properly, my about page finished and a few other odds and ends. I’m still learning this whole coding thing so it’s slow going but I’ll get there!
15.// Create a content calendar
I want to get in a better posting routine and I know the only way I’ll ever do that is if I create a content calendar that I can follow and schedule posts for.
16.// Create 20 items for my Etsy store
I have so many ideas of things that I’d like to make and sell; it’s just a matter of actually getting off my butt and doing it!
17.// Have at least $1,500 in Etsy Sales
This will be one of my harder goals, being new on Etsy, it’s hard to drive traffic to your store, but I think with enough perseverance I can do this!
18.//Get the ball rolling on my secret idea
Very mysterious, I know. There’s a business idea that I’ve had for about a year now that I’ve been itching to get started on, and I want this to be the year that I actually make things happen for it!
I’m really looking forward to working towards these goals this year and just trying to become a better me overall.
Whew! That was a pretty dang long post. If you’re still here, thank you for sticking it through! Let me know what some of your New Year’s goals are in the comments. We can work together and encourage each other to make steps towards them!
